Endorsement from Ann Sullivan - New Lisbon

I am endorsing Sarah Ann Shanahan for Assembly for the 50th District. She is currently our clerk for Town of Fountain and took over midterm, learning the job primarily on her own. She is a dedicated person and when you ask her a question, she doesn’t say “call this number or check this website”; she is the kind that says ‘I will find out and get back to you’. That is the commitment you will  get if you vote for Sarah Ann. Her experience as a clerk has really made her an asset to all our residents and will be instrumental in helping all her constituents. This is the kind of mission statement I would give to Sarah Ann “I will be responsible, ethical and devoted to my constituents and will work with all political parties in a harmonious manner.” That is the kind of person she is and I hope you will vote for her on November 6th.

Endorsement - Wisconsin State Journal

Sarah Ann Shanahan didn’t win this race — or our endorsement — two years ago against the likeable and mild-mannered incumbent, Rep. Ed Brooks, R-Reedsburg. But voters should give the town of Fountain clerk a second look. Shanahan is knowledgeable and aiming for consensus on mining and venture capital legislation. She would be a more effective champion for expanding broadband service in rural areas. Shanahan, a Democrat, is much better on open and good government issues.

Letter to the Editor - Appeared in the Reedsburg Times September 26, 2012

When Ed Brooks replaced Sheryl Albers as the 50th Assembly District representative, I had hopes that he would continue in her tradition of being responsive to the constituents in that district.
He has been disappointing, in that he has followed the Republican Party regardless of their interests in funding of education, protection of the environment, new energy sources, and workers and women's rights, and many times has been unresponsive once he learned I was not of his party.
He voted against our local farmers and supported the raw milk ban. He flip-flopped on the appointment of the Department of Natural Resources secretary and took away our voice at the Capitol in favor of the Gov. Jim Doyle's veto powers. He thinks insurance companies should be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

Think Before Raising Rates

Think Before Raising Rates

by Sarah Ann Shanahan on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:32am ·
Do you get a sinking feeling your stomach when you pull up to the gas pump? I know I sure do; if it’s not the price of gas that’s going up, it electric rates. At a time when people have been struggling, it’s crucial for us to have all of the facts before we give a green light to a project that may increase rates for Wisconsin taxpayers.

ATC is proposing high voltage transmission lines to move power from the Western states to the Eastern. The current proposal is runs the line right though Juneau County. This line could raise rates from 3-5$ per month, per customer.
