When Ed Brooks replaced Sheryl Albers as the 50th Assembly District representative, I had hopes that he would continue in her tradition of being responsive to the constituents in that district.
He has been disappointing, in that he has followed the Republican Party regardless of their interests in funding of education, protection of the environment, new energy sources, and workers and women's rights, and many times has been unresponsive once he learned I was not of his party.
He voted against our local farmers and supported the raw milk ban. He flip-flopped on the appointment of the Department of Natural Resources secretary and took away our voice at the Capitol in favor of the Gov. Jim Doyle's veto powers. He thinks insurance companies should be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
It has become apparent he is beholden to special interests, insurance companies and partisanship. He has been a do-nothing representative in bringing forth legislation. It is time for a change, and that change should bring back another woman into the state Legislature.
Sarah Ann Shanahan will fight to bring new tech jobs and broadband to our communities and will bring fair school funding to our district. Most of all, she will be a representative with a fresh perspective and a clean slate in the Assembly who will vote with you in mind and not partisan concerns.
Vote on Nov. 6 for Sarah Ann Shanahan for state Assembly to bring a local voice to the capitol.
