Sarah's Platform

One of the first things I had to do when I decided to run in 2010 was buy a car. I went back and forth about whether I should purchase new or used? How many miles? What kind of fuel efficiency? And the list goes on. I decided to purchase a basically new car from my Uncle Greg. Yeah, I spent more than I wanted to, but it was a wise investment. With gas prices jumping to $4 a gallon the fuel efficiency alone is saving me money.

The staunch partisanship has kept us from making the needed investments. It’s time for representation that cares about people, will reach across the aisle, and isn’t bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists.

Whether you’re putting gas in your car, paying your electric bill, or watching the disaster unfold in the gulf, we are constantly reminded of the cost of energy. Wisconsin pays a high price for fuels. Every year we send 15-21 billion dollars out of our state every year for fossil fuels, since we have no coal, oil, or natural gas. It makes sense for us to start investing in homegrown solutions.
· Produce more energy in Wisconsin
· Conserve energy through efficiency
· Create a marketplace for renewable fuels
· Encourage small scale renewable projects

We deserve quality education for our kids. With the state’s unfair funding formula, our schools are left with budget short falls, year after year. It continues to place an undue burden on property owners, since districts are left with little options to raise revenue. It’s time to stop putting a band aid over the problem.

· Create fairness in school funding by not relying on property taxes
· Give local authorities more autonomy
· Find and implement efficiencies

We can enrich our rural communities by investing in our infrastructure. From sidewalks and bike lanes that make it safer for kids to commute to broadband access which keeps our kids and businesses competitive, we need more.

· Making broadband cable eligible for transportation dollars
· Ensure adequate funding for local governments
· Encouraging sustainable development
